March 24, 2005

Final Stats

Davis, CA - The Marist women's lacrosse team took a hard-fought 12-8 loss at UC Davis afternoon to close out its western road trip. Freshman standout Lindsey Diener had her fourth hat trick in Marist's five games, leading all scorers with five goals. Despite pulling within three goals of Davis with just under 10:00 remaining, the Red Foxes could not manage to take the lead. With the loss, they fall to 1-4 overall while the Aggies improved to 4-3.

Davis scored six-straight goals to kick off the game, with Katie McMahon scoring three and getting an assist while Katie McGovern had a helper and two goals of her own. Diener put the Red Foxes on the scoreboard at 6:32 before the Aggies would better the Foxes for two more goals. Marist senior Lauren Sherman found classmate Christine Connell with under a minute left in the half to take the halftime score to 8-2, Davis.

Marist came out strong in the second as Diener and Connell each scored their second goals less than two minutes apart. McMahon struck again for the Aggies to give them a 9-4 lead before Diener scored her third to pull the Foxes within five. Tiffany Lee gave UC Davis a 10-5 lead 12 minutes later before Diener and Sherman scored on back-to-back free position shots, taking the score to 10-7, Aggies. Lee scored twice more in the next minute to secure the Davis victory and Diener hit one more for Marist with under a minute left in the game, bringing the final to 12-8.

Diener's five-goal outing was an impressive follow up to her seven goals against St. Mary's on Tuesday. The freshman has 21 goals on the season already. Additionally, she recorded two groundballs and had five draw controls for the Foxes. Connell led Marist with five groundballs while scoring her two goals and classmate Sherman finished with a goal, an assist and three groundballs. Senior goalkeeper Heather Ripp played a complete game in the cage, recording nine saves and four groundballs. McMahon paced the Aggies with five goals and one assist, while Jackie Milhoan had four groundballs and two draw controls.

The Red Foxes will be back in action on Saturday April 2 when they take on MAAC foe Fairfield at 1:00 p.m. in their home opener.
