Women's Lacrosse Falls to Drexel, 17-7

Philadelphia, Pa. - Marist freshman Lindsey Diener continued her outstanding collegiate debut with a four-goal performance in the Red Foxes' 17-7 loss at Drexel. With the loss, the Red Foxes fell to 1-1 overall while the Dragons improved to 1-1.

Drexel got on the board quickly with five consecutive goals from three different players. Diener gave the Red Foxes a boost with an unassisted goal at 13:00 in the first, but the Dragons answered back with one of their own. Lauren Sherman and Christine Connell each found the back of the net to pull the Foxes within four, 7-3 with under 10 minutes left in the half, but Drexel popped in three more quick goals to take a 10-3 halftime advantage.

The Dragons came out swinging in the second, picking up four goals in just four minutes to go up 14-3 before Diener got Marist on the board again at 18:55. Drexel continued to mount an offensive attack while two more goals from Diener and one from classmate Val Amodeo were not enough to pull the Foxes back into it.

Drexel outshot Marist 44-17 on the day. Goalkeepers Heather Ripp and Liz Burkhard combined for 14 saves in goal and Ripp led the Foxes with three ground balls. Colleen Rocks paced the Dragons with four goals and Nicole Adams had four groundballs and three goals.

The Red Foxes will be back in action on Saturday when they host St. Joseph's in their home opener at 4:00 p.m.
