Syracuse, NY -
The Marist women's lacrosse team took a tough 16-8 loss at the hands of Amanda Keegan and the LeMoyne Dolphins in a conference contest this afternoon. With the loss, the Foxes drop to 2-6 on the season, 1-2 in the MAAC while LeMoyne improves to 6-4 overall, 2-1 in conference. Despite being down just 5-3 at halftime, Marist struggled to stave off an offensive blitz by the Dolphins in the second. Senior Lauren Serge (Albany, NY) led Marist with two goals and an assist along with two groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Junior Kate Haberbusch (Montclair, NJ) put Marist on the board first with an unassisted goal at 26:55 for what would prove to be the Red Foxes only lead of the game. LeMoyne answered with back-to-back goals before Haberbusch sent home another off a feed from Serge to tie it up at 16:35. Megan Keddy had the eventual game-winning goal for LeMoyne just over a minute later, giving her team the 3-2 lead. Neither team would score again for the next 13 minutes until LeMoyne had two straight goals. Marist freshman Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, NY) closed out the half with one of her own, taking the score to 5-3, LeMoyne.
The Dolphins came out on fire in the second, scoring six goals in the first eight minutes of the half, building an 11-3 advantage. Marist mounted a comeback with four-straight goals, including two from Serge and one each from senior Francesca DeLorenzo (Nyack, NY) and Diener. With the 11-7 lead, LeMoyne went on the attack again and had four more goals including two from Keegan. Marist senior Christine Connell (Westbury, NY) recorded one more for the Foxes before the Dolphins took the eventual 16-8 victory.
DeLorenzo had another solid afternoon for Marist, picking up five groundballs along with four draw controls and her goal. Senior captain Heather Ripp (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) picked up 12 saves in the cage. Keegan led LeMoyne with five goals along with seven draw controls. Samantha Falcone had 13 saves in goal.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Wednesday April 13 when they play their long-awaited home opener against non-league foe Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m. on Leonidoff Field.
