Second Half Surge Powers Red Foxes Past Lafayette 8-5

April 12, 2005

Box Score

Easton, Pa. - The Marist men's lacrosse team (3-5) came back from a 4-2 deficit with 7:59 remaining in the third quarter with five unanswered goals and went on to defeat host Lafayette 8-5 today. Junior midfielders Bill Duerr and Tim Iuculano scored three goals each to lead the Red Foxes to their first non-conference win of the season.

Lafayette took an early 2-0 lead on the strength of two Jon Paulson goals but Marist would draw even as Iuculano and junior attackman Andrew Walsh scored unassisted goals. Walsh's fourth goal of the season, scored with 10:52 left in the first half, brought the two teams into the intermission tied 2-2.

The Leopards (1-10) scored twice in the first part of the third quarter to take a 4-2 advantage. The lead was short-lived, however, as after an Iuculano goal, sophomore midfielder Mike McGuire tossed in his fifth goal of the year with 4:30 remaining in the third period to tie the game again. 2:08 later, Iuculano reached the three-goal mark for the third time in 2005 to give Marist a lead it would not relinquish.

Duerr took over the goal-scoring duties in the fourth quarter, scoring all three of his goals in the game's final period to put the game out of reach. The Manasquan, N.J. native created his own shot each time, scoring unassisted.

Duerr and senior attackman Patrick Van Horne had assists for the Red Foxes. Paulson had three goals for Lafayette while Bart Seifert tallied a goal and two assists.

Junior Stephen Gravino made 14 saves in net for Marist while sophomore Shane Brennan saw his first action of the season late. Chris Rosa made 20 saves for the Leopards.

Marist is back in action Saturday at MAAC foe Wagner. Game time is 1 p.m.
