Box Score
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Center fielder Kevin Grauer's single to center in the bottom of the ninth Sunday propelled Marist over conference foe Le Moyne 4-3 at McCann Baseball Field. Marist improved to 13-15 overall and 9-3 with the win, while Le Moyne fell to 13-12 overall and 7-3 in the league. The win was the second walkoff win in a row for the Red Foxes, who defeated the Dolphins 4-3 Saturday in the second game of the doubleheader.
Sophomore Erik Supplee (3-2) claimed the win, tossing two innings of relief while allowing just two hits to go with a pair of strikeouts and one walk. Supplee succeeded Marist starter Jonathan Smith and junior lefthander Kevin Kelly. Smith allowed just three runs in seven innings on six hits, while striking out four and walking just one. Le Moyne reliever Ryan Woods (1-1) was tagged with the loss, striking out one batter in addition to Grauer's hit.
Grauer and first baseman Kevin Buck led the way for Marist at the plate with a pair of hits, while Grauer's three RBI represented a team-high. First baseman Keith Connors led Le Moyne with three hits.
Marist jumped on top early with a run in the first and second innings. Catcher Bryan Towler knocked in the first run with a single to center, scoring second baseman Travis Musolf. One inning later, Grauer knocked in Buck with a base hit to left to make the score 2-0.
The Dolphins fought back in their half of the fourth frame with a run on a single to right by shortstop Andy Parrino, plating Connors who reached on a leadoff double.
Three innings later, the Red Foxes made the score 3-1 with a manufactured run in the seventh. After Buck walked and went to second on a wild pitch by Le Moyne starter Al Drechsler, left fielder Thomas Ciccarone moved him over when he reached on third baseman Andre Enriquez's throwing error. Grauer then rapped a hard groundball to second, scoring Buck from third.
Le Moyne answered Marist's run with two of its own in the top of the eighth to tie the contest at 3-3. Enriquez lifted a long sacrifice fly to right field to score right fielder Robert Perez to make the score 3-2, while pinch runner Matt Bennage raced home on a wild pitch in the dirt by Supplee for the tying run.
Buck then led off the top of the ninth inning by reaching first when Le Moyne second baseman Jamie Rose dropped his ground ball and advanced to second when Ciccarone laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt. That prompted Marist head coach Joe Raccuia to summon Scott Chambers, the senior pitcher, to run for Buck, setting the stage for Grauer's heroics.
Musolf stole his team-leading 15th base of the season in the first inning.
The Red Foxes will now turn their attention to Hartford for a 3 p.m. game at home on Tuesday.
