Providence Sinks Men's Lax 7-3

Providence, R.I. - The Marist men's lacrosse team (4-6, 3-2 MAAC) suffered a 7-3 setback at the hands of host Providence today at Clay Field. The Friars improve to 5-7 overall and 4-1 in the MAAC. Junior midfielder Tim Iuculano had a goal and an assist for the Red Foxes while Jonathan Hollister paced Providence with four goals and an assist.

After falling behind 1-0 after one quarter, Marist rallied to take the lead as junior midfielder Bill Duerr and senior co-captain Patrick Van Horne scored 1:13 apart early in the second quarter. Iuculano, the current MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, had the assist on Duerr's goal. Providence's Sean Kirwan would score the first of his two goals with 6:58 remaining in the second quarter to send the game into halftime tied 2-2.

Kirwan found the net again with 7:58 remaining in the third to give the Friars a lead they would not relinquish while Hollister added the game-winning goal 5:16 later. He scored all four of his goals in the second half, including two backbreaking tallies with less than three minutes left in the game after Iuculano brought Marist within 5-3 with his team-leading 24th goal of the season at the 10:24 mark.

Junior Stephen Gravino, the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, made 10 saves in net for the Red Foxes while his counterpart, Andrew McMinn, had eight stops.

Marist returns to action Saturday at league foe Mount St. Mary's. Game time is 1 p.m.
