Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. - The Marist water polo team (13-18, 5-5 MAAC) concluded the regular season today by splitting two matches at St. Francis (N.Y.), defeating the host Terriers 7-6 before falling 3-1 to Iona. Sophomore 2M Katie Swanson scored four goals in the two matches.
Swanson had three goals and an assist in the win over St. Francis (N.Y.). Freshman driver Callie Andrysiak had two goals while sophomore driver Mary Grisey and junior utility Amanda Long had the other two. Sophomore 2MD Jillian Jefferds had three assists and was strong defensively with three steals. Senior driver Kerin Sovern had an assist. Freshmen Elizabeth Davis and Katy Zweifel respectively made six and 15 saves.
Swanson also had Marist's only goal in the loss to Iona. Freshman driver Allison Rader had the assist. Davis made five saves in that contest while Zweifel had four.
The Red Foxes have qualified for the MAAC Water Polo League Championships, to be held Friday-Sat. April 30-May 1 at the James J. McCann Center Natatorium at Marist. Pairings will be released this week.
