Baltimore, Md. - The Marist men's lacrosse team (8-8) suffered a 22-6 defeat to #1 Johns Hopkins today in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Homewood Field. Junior midfielder Ryan Blaney scored two goals for the Red Foxes, who concluded their most successful season in program history. Sophomore midfielder Keith Detelj and junior midfielder Tim Iuculano each had a goal and an assist.

Johns Hopkins rolled out to a 5-0 lead before senior attackman Patrick Van Horne extended his consecutive-game goal streak to seven with a man-up goal assisted by Iuculano 33 seconds into the second quarter.

5:11 later, Blaney scored off a Detelj pass to bring Marist within 7-2. That was as close as the Red Foxes would get, however, as the Blue Jays reeled off six unanswered goals before the half to take a 13-2 lead into the break.

Down 16-2 midway through the third quarter, Detelj scored with 4:38 left in the period. Marist got one more goal before the quarter expired as junior attackman Bill Duerr scored off a feed from sophomore midfielder Mike McGuire.

Blaney and Iuculano scored for Marist in the fourth quarter. Iuculano's goal came with 56 seconds left and closed out the scoring for the game.

Kevin Huntley had four goals and an assist for Johns Hopkins, which advances to the second round to play either eighth-seeded Massachusetts or 2004 national champions Syracuse.
