Women's Lacrosse Adds Tanya Kotowicz as Assistant Coach

Sept. 14, 2005

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Marist Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Noelle Cebron is pleased to welcome Tanya Kotowicz to her team as an assistant coach. Kotowicz played her collegiate lacrosse at the University of Connecticut, where she was a two-year team captain for the Huskies. In 2005, Kotowicz helped UConn to its best record during her career, going 12-5 and peaking with a ranking of 15th in the country.

"I am very excited to have Tanya as part of our team," said Coach Cebron. "She comes from a well-respected program with a great coaching staff at UConn, and is very enthusiastic about helping Marist get to the top of the MAAC."

Kotowicz has significant experience playing at a high-level, having competed as a starter for the Huskies from 2001-2005. In the final game of her career, UConn defeated Boston College for the ECAC Championships and Kotowicz posted one goal, two assists and four draw controls. Last season, she started 14 games, recording 10 goals, six assists, 20 groundballs and 22 draw controls. She also played in the 2005 North/South Senior All-Star game.

In addition to her success on the field, Kotowicz was a five-time Big East Honor Roll recipient and UConn Athletic Director's Honor Roll member. She was also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, which worked to strengthen communication between teams and administrators and UConn and its community.

In 2001 and 2004, Kotowicz received UConn's Sam Witryol "Husky Award," which is given to a player who consistently makes a positive contribution to the team effort. The recipient is someone who demonstrates the awareness and understanding of the spirit of the game and who exemplifies traits of loyalty and sportsmanship. Kotowicz is the only two-time recipient in program history.

As part of her graduate work, Kotowicz was an assistant teacher and teachers' assistant at various middle schools and at UConn. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in human development and family studies with a minor in psychology in 2004 and is currently working towards her master's in educational psychology.
