ITHACA, N.Y. - Four Marist men's tennis singles players and two doubles teams have advanced to the quarterfinals following the first day of play at the Cornell Fall Indoor Invitational.
In Flight A Singles, senior Pedro Genovese (Asuncion, Paraguay) downed Buffalo's Nikesh Singh Panthlia, 6-3, 6-4. A pair of Red Foxes, senior Ray Josephs (Rose Valley, Pa.) and senior Federico Rolon (San Diego, Calif.), advanced in Flight B Singles. Josephs posted a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Temple's Philip Gegenheimer, and Rolon toppled Binghamton's Justin Salkin, 6-1, 6-4. In Flight C Singles, senior Frank Algier (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) won two matches, earning a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Kyle Eddins of Fairleigh Dickinson and a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Temple's Eduardo Saavedra.
In Flight A Doubles, the tandem of Genovese and Rolon defeated Binghamton's Salkin and Pierre Clavel, 8-5. In Flight B Doubles, Algier and sophomore Antonio Oliver (Madrid, Spain) earned a bye into the quarterfinals.
Play will resume at the Cornell Fall Indoor Invitational on Saturday, and the event is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
