POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Women's Water Polo squad earned two wins on Sunday at the McCann Natatorium. In the opening game the Foxes downed Carthage 14-2, while they defeated Harvard in game two 5-3. Marist is winners of two straight and eight of its last nine games.
Against Carthage, Marist again had a balanced scoring attack as 10 different players recorded goals. Allison Rader (Lansdale, Pa.), Kristen Powers (Los Altos, Calif.), Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Annalyse Arguelles (Albuquerque, N.M.) all recorded two goals for Marist in the win. Sophomore Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) made four saves in the win.
The Harvard game was tight throughout, as the teams played a scoreless first period and then were tied at two at halftime. Following three periods of play the two squads were still deadlocked, this time at 3-3. Marist picked up two tallies in the fourth to seal a 5-3 win over the Crimson. Senior Mary Grisey (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored two goals in the game, including the game winner with 3:52 remaining in the tilt. Kari Weston's (Chino Hills, Calif.) second goal of the game with just over two minutes remaining sealed the win for the Red Foxes. Davis was again solid in goal for Marist, as she went the distance in the cage making 11 stops.
With the sweep on Sunday, Marist has run its record to 8-4 on the season. The eight wins is just five shy of the program record of 13 wins in a season which was set in head coach Andrew Silva's first season in 2005. The Foxes are back in action on March 11 when they will travel to to the west coast for a tilt with UC-Santa Barbara. The game is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. EST.
