POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The St. Joseph's University Men's Lacrosse team used five multiple goal scorers to earn a 15-5 win over Marist on senior night in Poughkeepsie. Senior captain Bill Duerr (Manasquan, N.J.) scored twice and added an assist for Marist, who fell to 6-6 on the season.
St. Joseph's took control of the game early as it tallied the first four goals of the game. Marist would come back to cut the deficit to 4-2 on goals by Andrew Walsh (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Tim Iuculano (Silver Spring, Md.) with 7:34 to play in the first half. The Hawks, though, would strike twice in the last five minutes to regain the four goal advantage at 6-2 heading into the intermission.
The Hawks would come out and dominate the second half, as they outscored the Red Foxes 9-3 in the second half, including a 6-2 advantage in the third period. St. Joseph's Keegan Wilkinson scored two of his three goals in the third, as he was one of three Hawks to post three goals in the game. He was joined by Andrew Four and Steve Varga with three markers in the game. Steve O'Brien and Alex Lopes added two goals apiece in the winning effort.
Marist was led by Duerr with his two goals and a helper, while Walsh, Nick Hautau (South Salem, N.Y.) and Iuculano rounded out the scoring for the Red Foxes. Hautau and Walsh would also add an assist apiece on the night.
Marist held the advantage in ground balls 31-22 and Dan Needle (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) won 17 of 23 face-offs in the game, Marist won 18 of the 24 total draws in the contest.
Marist, who stands at 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the MAAC, will round out its home schedule on Wednesday night when it hosts Providence at 7 p.m.
