Final Stats

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - In a rematch of last year's MAAC Tournament final, the Marist Men's Lacrosse team was beaten 14-5 by Mount Saint Mary's on Saturday afternoon. Matt Warner led the Mount Saint Mary's charge with a five goal, two assist afternoon in the win. Marist was led by senior captain Bill Duerr (Manasquan, N.J.) who scored a pair of goals and had an assist for the Red Foxes.

Marist got on the board first as Duerr scored his first of the afternoon at the 12:19 mark of the first quarter. Just over a minute later the Mountaineers tied the score on a goal by Benjamin Mundorf at 11:03. That was the first of four goals on the day by Mundorf, who also added an assist in the game. Duerr would give Marist its second lead of the afternoon at 2-1 with 2:05 to go in the first on his second goal of the game. That was the last advantage the Red Foxes would see in the game, as Mount Saint Mary's would reel off four straight goals. Andrew Walsh (Liverpool, N.Y.) would score at the 3:24 mark of the second to cut the deficit to 5-3 heading into halftime.

Mundorf would score the first two goals of the third to open up a 7-3 advantage over Marist at 9:12. Mike McGuire (Lake Grove, N.Y.) would scored at the 7:24 mark, but the Mountaineers would score the next five to put the game out of reach.

The Mountaineers had three players score multiple goals in the game, led by Warner's five. Warner also assisted on two other goals. Mundorf added his four goals and an assist, while Eric Seifert tallied three times. Jason Werner and Dave Orban tallied the other two goals for Mount Saint Mary's. Werner also added two assists in the game.

The Red Foxes out shot the Mountaineers in the game 37-34, won three more face-offs in the game and picked up two more ground balls. Dan Needle (Baldswinville, N.Y.) was 12-20 in face-offs in the game and he picked up five groundballs.

Freshman Ryan Penner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) fell to 4-4 on the season as he surrendered 12 goals. He made eight saves in the contest before being relieved by Terrence Dempsey (Lynbrook, N.Y.) with 2:23 left to play. Dempsey made one save in his second appearance of the season.

The loss is the Red Foxes first league blemish of the season, as they fall to 3-1 in MAAC play and 4-4 overall on the year. Marist will look to rebound when it takes the field on Tuesday night when it hosts Lafayette. Face-off is set for 7 p.m.
