Seven different Red Foxes scored goals in a 15-4 victory over Niagara this afternoon in MAAC women's lacrosse action. Marist improved to 4-8/2-2 MAAC while Niagara dropped to 5-7/1-3 MAAC. Freshman Kate Noftsker (Needham, Mass.) led the charge again for Marist, scoring five goals and adding two assists.
Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, N.Y.) scored the first of her four goals at 28:23 to get the Red Foxes on the board for the first time. Noftsker would tally an unassisted goal six minutes later before Niagara knotted the score at 2-2 at 16:48. Two minutes following, Nofstker scored to start a 12-0 Marist run.
Freshman Cristin Begley (Brookville, Md.) scored her first goal of the day soon after as the Red Foxes began to roll. Noftsker tallied two more goals before the end of the half, one assisted by Begley, to give her squad a 6-2 lead at halftime. The freshman picked up where she left off, scoring Marist's first goal of the second half at 27:23.
Marist continued its dominance as Megan White (Copiague, N.Y.) gave Marist an 8-2 lead at 25:55. The Foxes scored four goals in a two minute period including a pair from Diener and sophomore Kelsey Haggett's (Glastonbury, Conn.) first tally of the season.
The Foxes had another quick scoring spurt from 18:06 to 15:33, featuring Megan Frey (Pearl River, N.Y.), Begley and classmate Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.). The Purple Eagles snuck in a pair of goals in the last 11 minutes but Marist held out for the 15-4 win.
Sophomore Liz Burkhard (Wantagh, N.Y.) had another solid performance in goal, making 12 saves and recording six ground balls.
Nofstker finished the day with five goals, two assists, three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Diener tallied four goals, one assist and three draw controls while Begley added two goals, one assist and three ground balls.
Lindsey Hamann led Niagara's offense with two goals while Whitney Gill tallied 14 saves in the cage.
The Red Foxes are back in action on Thursday when they host St. Mary's (CA) at 4:00 p.m.
