POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Marist senior righthander George Heath (Henrietta, N.Y.) and junior left fielder Adam Pernasilici (Tecumseh, Ontario) powered the Red Foxes to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Iona Thursday afternoon at the McCann Baseball Field. Marist won the first game by a score of 13-4 and the second by a tally of 2-0.

The Red Foxes improved to 23-28 overall and 15-10 in the MAAC, while Iona dropped to 12-41 overall and 8-17 in league play.

Pernasilici posted his best performance of the year in the first game with a 4-for-5 effort that included three doubles and six RBIs. He also scored a pair of runs. Four other Red Foxes posted two-hit games, including junior right fielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.), junior third baseman Pat Feeney (New City, N.Y.), junior designated hitter Justin Lepore (Madison, Conn.) and senior first baseman Kevin Grauer (Plain City, Ohio). Musolf and Feeney also scored three runs apiece.

Pernasilici's doubles were his 13th, 14th and 15th of the season, while Musolf rapped his third triple of the season and stole his ninth base.

Iona was led by a 4-for-4 effort from first baseman Allie Abbatiello, while center fielder Paul Salerno dented home plate twice.

Marist starter Jonathan Smith (4-7, Woonsocket, R.I.) picked up the victory, tossing seven innings and allowing four runs on 12 hits with one strikeout and one walk. Junior righthander Erik Supplee (Williamsburg, Va.) finished the game with two shutout innings. Iona's Nick Stanziani (3-4) suffered the loss, allowing eight runs on eight hits in three innings with two walks.

Heath (6-4) tossed a complete game shutout in the second contest, fanning four and allowing just four hits. Iona's Williams Dorsa (2-3) failed to record an out in the first inning and was charged with the loss. He allowed one run on one hit and two walks.

At the plate, Pernasilici and freshman second baseman Kyle Meyer (East Greenbush, N.Y.) knocked in one run each, while junior right fielder Tom Ciccarone (Somerville, N.J.) and Grauer scored the tallies.

The two teams will square off in the final game of the series on Friday at noon.
