POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-The Holy Cross football squad improved to 2-2 overall on the season with a 27-0 defeat of homestanding Marist Saturday evening at Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes dropped to 1-3 with the loss.

 

Holy Cross junior wideout Ryan Maher got the Crusaders on the board first with a five-yard scoring reception from junior quarterback Brian McSharry with 6:55 left. McSharry then put the Crusaders up 13-0 with a one-yard plunge just 33 seconds into the second stanza.

 

Sophomore quarterback Dominic Randolph hooked up with Maher again in the third quarter on a 25-yard scoring toss for a 20-0 score. The final margin was set when junior wideout Thomas Harrison hauled in an 18-yard McSharry pass with 10:42 left to play.

 

Sophomore running back Mike Kielt led Holy Cross in rushing with 11 carries for 71 yards. McSharry finished 15-for-23 through the air for 139 yards and two scores. Harrison was the Crusaders' leading receiver with 88 yards on eight catches.

 

Junior running back Adam Hansen (Monroe Township, N.J.) led Marist in rushing with 61 yards on 11 carries. Junior quarterback Stephen McGrath (Manasquan, N.J.) led the Red Foxes' passing attack with 11 completions in 22 attempts with one interception. Freshman wide receiver Will Brown (Windsor, Conn.) led the receiving corps with four catches for 44 yards.

 

Linebacker Dan Adams and Brian Billman led Holy Cross with six tackles apiece, while Marist senior safety Huck Correia (Pittsfield, Mass.) paced the Red Foxes with 11 stops. Senior linebacker D.J. Ford (Mahopac, N.Y.) and senior safety Nick Salis (Nashua, N.H.) also had 10 tackles. Sophomore defensive lineman Oghogho Igbinosun (Rahway, N.H.) also posted three tackles for loss.

 

The Red Foxes will now turn their attention to a homecoming date with Bucknell on Saturday, September 30 at 1 p.m. The Bison knocked off Marist 27-7 last season for the program's only win last season.
