POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Manhattan's Darryl Crawford hit a floater in the lane with seven seconds left Tuesday to give the Jaspers a 75-74 victory over the visiting Red Foxes at Draddy Gymnasium. Marist dropped to 15-7 overall and 7-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, while Manhattan improved to 11-10 overall and 8-3 in the league.

The loss was Marist's sixth consecutive defeat in Draddy Gymnasium. It was also just the second time in two years that the Red Foxes lost a game (33-2) when it was leading with five minutes to go. The Red Foxes' 75-72 loss in the 2005-06 season opener at Seton Hall was the only other exception.

Senior guard Will Whittington (Kingwood, Tx.) led Marist with 21 points and six 3-pointers. Backcourt mate Jared Jordan (Hartford, Conn.) also posted 17 points, a team-high 10 assists and six rebounds. He is bidding to become the first player in Division I history since Southern University's Avery Johnson to lead the nation in assists twice. Johnson averaged 10.74 during the 1986-87 season and 13.3 the following season.

Redshirt junior Ryan Stilphen (Bay Village, Ohio) had 17 points and shared top rebounding honors with Jordan with six.

Senior center James Smith (Nyack, N.Y.) also posted 10 points before fouling out in 20 minutes of action.

Manhattan had five players in double figures, led by Crawford and Arturo Dubois' 13 points. Patrick Bouli also had 11, while Guy Ngarndi and Antoine Pearson had 10.

Bouli also had a game-high eight boards, while Bouli and Pearson had six assists.

Manhattan also held a dominating 26-0 edge in bench scoring and a 34-33 edge on the glass.

Marist seemed to have control of the game when Stilphen completed a three-point play to give the Red Foxes a 48-37 lead 10 seconds into the second half. However, Ngarndi had three baskets and Dubois put in a pair over the next three minutes, 24 seconds before Stilphen hit another layup to kill the 10-0 run.

For the game, Marist shot 45.9 percent (28-61) from the field, while Manhattan hit 31 of 61 shots for 50.8 percent from the field. The Red Foxes hit 11 of 24 shots from 3-point range (45.8 percent), while Manhattan hit eight of 19 shots (42.1 percent) from long range.

Marist will now turn its attention to a Saturday home matchup with MAAC-leading Loyola (13-8 overall, 9-2 MAAC) at 7:30 p.m.
