CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - Senior captain Pat Collins (Nutley, N.J.) won the 100-yard freestyle for the Marist Men's Swimming and Diving team on the final day of competition of the ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships. Marist finished behind only Harvard, who won the event with 513 points. Marist was second with 458.5 and Columbia placed third with 387 points.
Collins was the lone winner for the Red Foxes on Sunday, as he bested the field in the 100 free in a time of 45.48 seconds. Collins also anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay that finished third. He teamed with Will Shearouse (Milford, N.H.), Ralph Rienzo (Wallingford, Conn.) and Greg Jablonski (Massapequa, N.Y.) to post a final time of 3:06.42.
Dan Garaffa (Manchester, Conn.) finished in fourth place in the 200-yard backstroke for the Foxes, posting a time of 1:52.49. He was followed by Luke Johnson (Pensacola, Fla.) in sixth place and senior captain Brandon Youse (Boyertown, Pa.) in seventh. Johnson and Youse recorded times of 1:54.98 and 1:55.05, respectively.
Rienzo was Marist's top finisher in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a ninth place finish in a time of 16:24.42. Following in 14th place with a final time 17:02.12 was sophomore Spencer Hartmann (Windsor, Conn.).
Jablosnki posted a sixth place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, while senior Nick Chevalier (Milford, N.H.) placed ninth in the 200-yard butterfly. Jablonski and Chevalier finished their respective events with times of 2:08.77 and 1:55.50.
In diving, Devon O'Nalty (East Hartford, Conn.) was the Marist's top finisher in the one-meter event with a third place score of 269.25. Jesus Santos (Haverstraw, N.Y.) followed in sixth place with a score of 224.00 and freshman Mitchell Katz (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) placed seventh with a point total of 209.65.
Prior to this weekend's ECAC Championships the Red Foxes won their third straight MAAC title.
