ALBANY, N.Y. - The Marist women's tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over Albany on Friday in a match which was re-scheduled from a week ago following last Friday's snowstorm. The Red Foxes prevailed in their third straight match and now stand at 4-1 overall on the season.

The Red Foxes received a straight-set victory at third singles from Megan Gureck (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), who earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Christine Suarez. At fifth singles, Mirelva Colon (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) defeated Kim Westcott in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

Marist also nabbed a win at first doubles, as the team of Christine Ong (Tarzana, Calif.) and Erin Godly (Verona, Ky.) earned am 8-5 win over Aimee Kern and Kim Weltman. Emily Zampello (Kingwood, Texas) won her match at sixth singles by forfeit, and the team of Gureck and Zampello also won their third doubles match by forfeit.

In other singles action, Ong suffered a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Kern. Godly fell to Weltman at second singles, 7-6 (9-7), 6-2. Alexa Strange (Valencia, Calif.) suffered a 6-3, 6-1 loss at fourth singles to Amanda Hall. Strange and Colon also dropped a hard-fought second doubles match to Suarez and Hall, 9-8 (7-1).

Marist will return to action on Wednesday, as the Red Foxes will host Manhattan in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest at 4 p.m. The Red Foxes are currently 1-0 in MAAC play.
