KINGSTON, N.Y. - The Marist women's lacrosse team rolled to a 21-5 victory over Binghamton on Tuesday afternoon at Dietz Stadium, as four different Red Foxes scored at least three goals. The 21-goal output is tied for the second-highest single-game total in program history, and was the highest total the Red Foxes had in a game since they scored a program-record 22 against Howard on April 10, 1998.
Sophomore midfielder Carolyn Sumcizk (Syosset, N.Y.) led the way with a game-high four goals to go along with two assists for a game-high six points. Freshman midfielder Liz Falco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), freshman midfielder Lindsay Rinefierd (Smithtown, N.Y.) and sophomore attacker Kate Noftsker (Needham, Mass.) scored three goals apiece, and sophomore midfielder Cristin Begley (Brookville, Md.) had four points with a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
The Red Foxes' offensive explosion came despite not scoring in the game's first 10 minutes, as Binghamton jumped out to a 2-0 lead. However, with 19:41 left in the first half, Falco scored with an assist from Ali Caranbuci (Albertson, N.Y.) to get Marist on the scoreboard. It would be the first of nine consecutive goals the Red Foxes scored to close out the first half, and 11 straight overall. Marist would outscore Binghamton by a 12-3 margin in the second half.
Marist (3-3) outshot Binghamton by a 41-16 margin, and also held a 34-26 edge in ground balls. Falco, Begley and Noftsker tied for the team lead with six shots on goal apiece. Rinefierd and freshman midfielder Morgan Dillon (Freeport, N.Y.) led the way with five ground balls apiece. Falco, Rinefierd and Dillon also had five caused turnovers apiece to pace the Red Foxes. Making her first start of the season, sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Jansky (Bethpage, N.Y.) made nine saves.
Anna Riordan had the only multi-point game for Binghamton, finishing with a goal and two assists. The Bearcats fell to 0-6.
The Red Foxes will return to action with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Lacrosse League contest on Friday at Manhattan at 3 p.m. Marist is currently 0-1 in league play.
