POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Andrew Silva's Women's Water Polo team returned to the .500 mark with a 12-9 defeat of Gannon (10-6) Thursday night in the McCann Natatorium. Sophomore Kari Weston (Chino Hills, Calif.) scored five times and added four assists for the Foxes, who raised their record to 13-13 on the season.
Weston's nine point night led the Foxes, who had three players score at least two goals. With her offensive output on Thursday, Weston now has nine goals in her last two games. Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas) added four markers and fellow freshman Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) added two in the win. Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored a goal and recorded four assists in the win for the Foxes.
McCahill and Barnett each drew two ejections in the contest, while freshman Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) led the team in steals with two.
Kat Bucceri led the Gannon offensive attack with four of the Golden Knights' nine tallies. Brenna Pease also played a strong game, coming off the bench to score a pair of goals.
Marist junior captain Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) went the distance in goal against the Golden Knights, making eight saves on the night.
At 13-13 the Red Foxes will have a short layoff for the Easter break and return to action on April 7 when they open MAAC play. Marist will square off with Wagner at 1:00 p.m. and then St. Francis (N.Y) at 4:00 p.m. in Villanova, Pa.
