SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Despite a six-goal effort from freshman midfielder Liz Falco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), the Marist women's lacrosse team suffered a 17-16 loss at Le Moyne in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Lacrosse League contest on Friday. The defeat snapped a three-game winning streak for the Red Foxes, who fell to 8-5 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.
With six goals and an assist, Falco had a game-high seven points for the Red Foxes. Her six goals came on six shots on goal. Junior midfielder Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, N.Y.) added three goals and an assist, and sophomore midfielder Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.) also scored three times.
Diener opened the scoring with a goal on a free position shot just 53 seconds into the contest, but the Dolphins answered with three consecutive goals. Neither team held more than a two-goal lead the rest of the half, and Falco's fifth goal with one second remaining until halftime cut Le Moyne's lead to 9-8.
Le Moyne's largest lead in the second half was five, which came when Kylie Rosette scored with 18:45 remaining. The Red Foxes roared back with four straight goals, with two apiece coming from Diener and junior Ali Carnabuci (Albertson, N.Y.). However, Marist was unable to tie the game at any point in the second half.
Amanda Keegan led the Dolphins (12-4 overall, 6-0 MAAC) with five goals, and led all players with 11 shots. Lisa McCarthy added four goals and an assist for Le Moyne, which outshot Marist by a 38-31 margin.
The Red Foxes will conclude their regular season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest at Siena.
