BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Marist Women's Water Polo team closed out the regular season with wins over Iona 10-8 and Siena 13-4 on Sunday. The wins helped Marist tie the program record for wins in a season with 23 and the Foxes broke the previous school mark for league wins of eight. With a perfect 10-0 record in the MAAC, Marist will enter next week's MAAC Water Polo League Tournament as the top seed for the first time in school history.
Against Iona, Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Julie Wade (Whittier, Calif.) each registered three goals in the game. Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas), Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) also added goals in the win. Kari Weston (Chino Hills, Calif.) contributed four assists in the game for the Foxes, while Schroeder and McCahill each drew two ejections.
Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) got the nod in goal against the Gaels and made seven saves and also posted an assist. Rampton also contributed three steals on the defensive side of the pool.
Marist closed out the regular season against Siena and used nine different goal scorers in its 13 goal effort. McCahill led the way for Marist with four goals and Schroeder found the back of the cage twice against the Saints. The Red Foxes also had four players record two assists, with Weston, Barnett, Wade and Hillary Walling (Kingwood, Texas) all helped on two goals. McCahill closed out a solid effort with two more drawing ejections against Siena, as well as a pair of steals.
Katy Zweifel (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) played the full game in net and recorded 11 stops and collected three steals.
Marist closes out the regular season with a 23-13 record and 10-0 within the league. Marist will prepare for the MAAC Tournament which will take place in the McCann Natatorium on Marist's campus. Marist will look to repeat as MAAC Champions and make a return trip to the NCAA Tournament.
