However, Siena claimed the lead with three consecutive goals. After three more lead changes, the Saints tied the score at six apiece on a goal by Lindsey Rosecrans with 11:40 remaining until halftime. The Red Foxes answered with nine consecutive goals - four to close out the first half, and the first five of the second half. Marist would run its lead to as large as 12 before Siena scored three times in the final minute to cut the ending margin to nine.
The Red Foxes held a 36-31 edge in shots, a 36-33 advantage in ground balls and forced 21 Siena turnovers. Junior goalkeeper Liz Burkhard (Wantagh, N.Y.), who stopped 11 Siena shots, led Marist with six ground balls.
Rosecrans and Alexandra Kain led Siena (4-10 overall, 3-4 MAAC) with three goals apiece. Marist held senior attacker Christina Pampalone - Siena's all-time leader in goals who had a 23-game point-scoring streak entering play - to zero points.
Marist has earned the third seed in next weekend's MAAC Tournament, and will face second-seeded Fairfield in its semifinal contest on Friday. The winner will advance to Friday's final against either top-seeded Le Moyne or fourth-seeded Manhattan. All tournament games will be held at Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y.
