POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Water Polo Team advanced to its second straight MAAC Championship Game on Saturday with an 8-3 win over fourth seeded Villanova. Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Kari Weston (Chino Hills, Calif.) each scored three goals and junior captain Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) made 14 saves for the Red Foxes.
McCahill and Weston were two of four goal scorers in the victory for Marist, with Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas) each adding a marker. Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) had a team high two assists in the game, with Schroeder, Weston and McCahill also adding helpers. McCahill drew two ejections in the game for the Foxes.
On the defensive side, Marist had seven players record steals on Saturday. Schroeder and Weston led the way with two apiece in the contest.
Davis played a strong game against the Wildcats in allowing only three goals. She stopped 14 shots on the day, including a 5M penalty in the second quarter. She also collected a steal in the win.
The victory sets up a rematch of last year's championship game with Wagner that Marist won 5-4. Wagner defeated Iona 13-9 on Saturday to advance to the final which is set to being at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.. Iona and Villanova will square off in the consolation game at noon.
