Final Stats
NEWTON, Mass. - Despite a four-goal effort from junior midfielder Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, N.Y.), the Marist women's lacrosse team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 9-8 loss to Boston College of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Saturday. The Red Foxes now stand at 5-4 on the season.
Junior goalkeeper Liz Burkhard (Wantagh, N.Y.) made 18 saves for the Red Foxes, and sophomore midfielder Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.) added a goal and an assist.
Garland got the Red Foxes on the scoreboard 5:03 into the game with a goal on a free position shot. Diener added a pair of goals later in the first half as the teams were tied 3-3 at the intermission, and her third goal gave Marist a 4-3 advantage just 15 seconds into the second half.
However, Boston College answered with four straight goals in a span of 6:22 to take a 7-4 lead with 20:38 to play, and the Red Foxes never tied or took the lead after that. A goal by sophomore attacker Kate Noftsker (Needham, Mass.) brought Marist to within one goal with 6:52 remaining, but neither team got on the scoreboard after that.
Boston College (5-7) held a 38-26 lead in shots, including a 20-10 advantage in the second half. The Eagles also held a 12-9 edge in ground balls and a 10-9 advantage in draw controls. Sarah Sedgwick came off the bench to lead Boston College with three goals, and goalkeeper Katie Monaghan made 13 saves.
Marist will return to action on Tuesday with the first of three straight home games, as the Red Foxes will host Sacred Heart at 4 p.m.
