Marist Football Tabbed Second In MAAC Preseason Poll

EDISON, N.J. - The Marist football team was picked to finish second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League preseason poll, it was announced Monday. The Red Foxes, who shared the league crown with Duquesne last season, garnered 10 points in the poll.

Duquesne, which has won at least a share of the last eight MAAC titles, was picked first in the poll with 15 points. The Dukes boast the MAAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in wide receiver Bruce Hocker and linebacker John Simmons, respectively.

The Red Foxes finished last season with a record of 4-7 overall and 3-1 in the MAAC, earning at least a share of their second MAAC title in program history. Marist also won the MAAC in 1994.

Marist, which has a 9-3 record in MAAC play the last three seasons, will begin its 2007 season at Lafayette on September 1.
