POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Athletics Department announced the 2009 men's lacrosse schedule on Thursday. The Red Foxes will play six home matches at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field starting with the season opener against Vermont on February 28.
"Our schedule provides a balance of excellent non-conference competition and a tough league slate," said head coach Scott Nelson. "Every year it seems, the MAAC Lacrosse League has a new champion and the league is getting tougher. We look to get into the tournament field and have a shot at making the NCAA Tournament."
Following the home match against Vermont, Marist will go on the road to take on Binghamton on March 7. The Red Foxes then return to Poughkeepsie to take on 2008 MAAC champions Canisius on March 14 to open MAAC Lacrosse League play. Marist closes out a brief two-game homestand on March 17 against the Fairfield Stags.
The Red Foxes play their next three games on the road. Marist begins this stretch with back to back conference games, taking on Mount St. Mary's and Wagner on March 21 and 28 respectively. The road trip concludes at Lafayette on March 31. Marist returns home on April 4 with a MAAC Lacrosse League match against the Keydets of VMI. The Red Foxes then embark on another three-game road trip, starting at Holy Cross on April 11. Following the match against the Crusaders, Marist will take on MAAC Lacrosse League opponents Providence and Saint Joseph's.
Marist concludes the 2009 regular season with consecutive matches at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes host Siena on April 22 and will close the season on April 25 against Manhattan. The 2009 MAAC Lacrosse League Tournament will be held on May 1st and 3rd at Canisius.
