BALTIMORE, Md. - The Marist Red Foxes women's swimming and diving team traveled to Baltimore, Md. to compete in the H2Ounds Invitational hosted by Loyola (Md.). The Red Foxes competed in dual meets against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Loyola and Delaware.
Marist fell in both meets by scores of 199-171 against Loyola and 252-113 to Delaware.
On the first day of competition, freshman Meredith Michl (Delmar, N.Y.) won the women's three-meter diving event. She triumphed with a score of 218.55. She has taken first off the three-meter board in Marist's last two meets.
In day one's swimming events, the Red Foxes took just one second place and two third places. Junior Jenell Walsh-Thomas (Medford, N.J.) earned a second place finish in the 500-yd. freestyle. Walsh-Thomas finished with a time of 5:07.07.
Two Red Foxes' relay teams took third place on day one. The 400-yd. medley relay team of freshman Lyndsay Martin (Schenectady, N.Y.), senior Sandra Bujalski (Thomaston, Conn.) and freshman Michelle Fountain (Sayville, N.Y.) finished in 3:58.88.
The Marist 800-yd. freestyle relay team of freshman Caroline Skjong-Nilsen (Palmetto Bay, Fla.), Fountain, Walsh-Thomas and Bujalski also finished third with a time of 7:46.62.
In Saturday's morning session, Walsh-Thomas took third place in two freestyle events: the 1,650-yd. freestyle and the 200-yd. freestyle. Her times were 17:50.14 and 1:55.73 respectively. In the 200-yd. freestyle Fountain finished in second place, one spot ahead of Walsh-Thomas. Fountain's time was 1:55.48.
During the afternoon session, the diving squad came to the forefront for the Red Foxes. Michl won her second event of the weekend off the three-meter board. Michl scored 209.70 to win the event. In one-meter diving, senior Rachel Cuyler (Mansfield, Conn.) earned a second place finish with a score of 215.75. Cuyler qualified for the ECAC meet with her score at the H2Ounds Invitational.
Marist had one additional first place finish in the 200-yd. fly. Bujalski won the race with a time of 2:09.29, while freshman Leanna Brittis (Bluffton, S.C.) finished 3.6 seconds behind Bujalski's pace. Brittis finished with a time of 2:12.89.
The Red Foxes had two additional second places in the afternoon session. In the 200-yd. women's backstroke, Kreho finished second with a time of 2:07.64. The 400-yd. freestyle relay team of Skjong-Nilsen, Walsh-Thomas, Bujalski and Fountain touched the wall with a time of 3:38.30, good for second place.
After the first day was completed, Marist held a 65-45 lead over Loyola, while the Red Foxes trailed the Blue Hens of Delaware 80-30.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Saturday, Jan.10 when the Lehigh Mountain Hawks will come to Poughkeepsie for a dual meet with Marist. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
