DENVER, Colo.- The Marist women's lacrosse team fell to #20 Denver 21-10 on Monday evening. In the loss, Red Fox senior Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, N.Y.) set the school assists record. She had two goals and two assists. Sophomore Liz Falco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) added three goals and an assist for Marist (2-2).
Denver held the edge throughout the entire game. They out-shot Marist 45-20 and held a 27-17 advantage in ground balls.
Liz Burkhard (Wantagh, N.Y.) made 16 saves for the Red Foxes. She also led the way with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Cristin Begley (Brookville, Md.) had two ground balls and three draw controls.
Denver (5-3) jumped out to a 5-2 lead just ten minutes into the game, and they would never look back. The Red Foxes were able to cut the lead to 6-5 after Diener's second goal, but the Pioneers scored six of the games next eight.
Diener's record breaking assist came with one minute remaining in the first half. She broke Pamela Brown's previous record of 53.
Denver was led by Steph Coyne's two goals and four assists. Ali Flury had four goals and Tully Sapp had three. Megan Carver had two goals and three assists.
Katie Gold got the win in net for the Pioneers.
Marist will practice tomorrow and then return to action in Colorado on Wednesday. They will play Colgate at the University of Denver (1:00 p.m. MT).
