DENVER, Colo.- The Marist women's lacrosse team fell to Colgate 15-12 on Thursday afternoon. Colgate outscored the Red Foxes 9-2 over the last 20 minutes of the first half, and the Red Foxes could never get back in the game. Marist (2-3) was led by Ali Carnabuci (Albertson, N.Y.), and Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, N.Y.).
Marist got off to a great start, scoring the games first three goals in less than seven minutes. Diener, Carnabuci, and Cristin Begley (Brookville, Md.) had the early Marist goals.
After the quick start, Colgate (3-6) came right back to tie the score at 3-3. The Red Foxes answered with goals from Erin Wilson (Ada, Mich.) and Diener to take a brief 5-3 lead. 47 seconds after the Red Foxes fifth goal, Colgate began 6-0 run to end the first half and take a 9-5 lead.
From the point of Marist's 5-3 lead, Colgate went on to score 12 of the next 13 goals in the game and extended their lead to 14-6 at one point.
Marist closed out the game the same way they started. They scored seven of the games final eight to make the score 15-12.
Carnabuci had six goals and an assist, and Diener had four goals to go along with an assist.
Colgate took 32 shots to the Red Foxes 27, and held a 20-15 edge in ground balls. Begley led Marist with five ground balls. Liz Falco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had five draw controls for the Red Foxes.
Marist will return to action when they take on Brown in Wilton, Connecticut at Wilton High School. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
