LEWISBURG, PA. - With the game tied 6-6 after three quarters, the Marist women's water polo team could muster only one goal in the fourth quarter, falling to #18 Bucknell 8-7 in the Championship game of the ECAC Tournament. Maggie Hatcher (Evanston, Ill.) and Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas) each scored two goals to lead Marist.
"We played really hard. Bucknell is a very good team and ranked nationally, so I'm proud of our effort," said head coach Ashleigh Jacobs as her team moved to 6-5 on the season.
The game was back and forth the whole way, but Bucknell had the early momentum taking a 4-3 lead at halftime. The Red Foxes had their best quarter in the third, scoring three times, but the Bison kept it close with two scores of their own to tie the game at 6-6.
Sophomores Rachel Sunday (Carlisle, Pa.), Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.), and Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) all scored for Marist in the game. Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led the way defensively with three steals as freshman Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) made 11 saves, including one penalty shot save, in the game.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, March 8 when they take on Brown at the Hartwick Invitational.
