POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- Liz Falco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Carolyn Sumcizk (Syosset, N.Y.) each had four goals as the Marist women's lacrosse team crushed Lafayette 22-4 on Monday afternoon. After Lafayette (0-11, 0-4 Patriot) cut the Marist lead to 5-2, the Red Foxes (3-5, 0-1 MAAC) ran off 17 straight goals to build a 22-2 lead.
Lafayette's Maddy Booth scored the games first goal, but Marist answered back with five straight and never looked back in building a 19-2 halftime lead.
The Red Foxes out-shot Lafayette 34-16 on the game and 30-7 in the first half. Marist goalie Liz Burkhard (Wantagh, N.Y.) made eight saves in the win. Burkhard and Caitlin Bergin (Rumson, N.J.) led Marist with three ground balls each. Bergin also caused four Lafayette turnovers.
Falco had three assists and three draw controls to go along with her four goals. Senior Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, N.Y.) had three goals and two assists and is now two points away from breaking the Marist career point's record.
Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.), Cristin Begley (Brookville, Md.), and Ali Carnabuci (Albertson, N.Y.) all had two goals for Marist. Garland also had two assists, and Lindsay Rinefierd (Smithtown, N.Y.) chipped in with a goal and two assists.
Casey Sharkey had two goals, and Maddy Booth had two assists for Lafayette.
Marist held a 17-13 advantage in ground balls and a 16-12 advantage in draw controls.
Marist will return to action on Friday when they visit MAAC foe Iona. Game time is 4 p.m.
