ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Marist women's water polo team moved to 8-5 this weekend with wins over Brown and Harvard at the Hartwick Invitational, which concluded on Sunday. The Red Foxes defeated Brown 12-11 on Saturday, then defeated Harvard 13-10 on Sunday.
Marist opened their game against Brown with five goals in the first quarter, taking a 5-1 lead. The Bears answered with five goals of their own in the second quarter to close within one, 7-6, at half. Marist's two goals in the second quarter would be the difference, as both teams scored five goals in the second half, giving the Red Foxes the 12-11 win. Junior 2M Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) led Marist with four goals, as freshman Maggie Hatcher (Evanston, Ill.) and Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) each scored twice and Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas) scored once. Senior goalie Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) made eight saves in the win.
On Sunday, the Red Foxes took on Harvard. The Crimson took an early 4-3 lead, but Marist got two goals from Barnett to spark a five-goal second quarter and an 8-6 halftime lead. McCahill scored twice in the fourth quarter to put Marist over Harvard 13-10. Barnett, McCahill, and Hatcher each scored three goals in the win. Rampton, Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Rachel Sunday (Carlisle, Pa.), and Emily St. Omer Roy (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) each tallied for the Red Foxes in the win. Davis and freshman Madison Weber (Walnut Creek, Calif.) combined for 14 saves.
The Red Foxes now go out west for their next seven games. The California trip begins on March 15 at the Claremont Colleges Invitational.
