POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Jay Gavin (Seat Pleasant, Md.) of the Marist men's basketball team has been named to CollegeInsider.com's Freshmen Mid-Major All-America Team. Gavin, who was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Co-Rookie of the Year, was also named to the CollegeHoops.net Honorable Mention Mid-Major All-Freshman Team on Monday.

Gavin was one of 16 players named to the team, which was chosen by the CollegeInsider.com staff with input from Division I coaches and NBA scouts.

Gavin led the Red Foxes in scoring at 12.3 points per game this season. His 395 points set a Marist Division I single-season freshman scoring record. He also led the Red Foxes with 73 three-pointers while leading the squad in free throws made (84), free throws attempted (109) and free-throw percentage (.771). He had a streak of five consecutive 20-point games this season, and won MAAC Rookie of the Week honors five times.
