POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- Ali Carnabuci (Albertson, N.Y.) scored three of Marist's first five goals, and Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, N.Y.) had six points as the Marist women's lacrosse team cruised to a 15-8 victory over conference rival Siena on Friday afternoon at Tenney Stadium.
The Red Foxes (8-7, 5-1 MAAC) jumped out to a 5-1 lead 11 minutes into the game, and Siena never really threatened. The Saints (3-10, 1-4 MAAC) tallied three of the next five to cut the Marist lead to 7-4 at the end of the first half but would never get any closer.
Carnabuci scored all three of her goals, and Diener notched two of her four assists in the first stanza, and junior Carolyn Sumcizk (Sysosett, N.Y.) netted two as well.
Marist scored the first three goals of the second half to essentially put the game away. Sumcizk scored her third goal of the game 6:42 in to the second half, and Lindsay Rinefierd (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Diener found the back of the net on free position shots.
The teams traded goals for the remainder of the game, and Marist had no trouble the rest of the way.
Junior Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.) had three assists and one goal on the afternoon, and Rinefierd finished with two goals and a helper.
Jessica O'Brien (Wantagh, N.Y.), Kellie Considine (Wantagh, N.Y.), and Kate Noftsker (Needham, Mass.) scored one goal for the Red Foxes and Diener had two.
Sophomore Liz Falco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had two assists for the winners.
Liz Burkhard (Wantagh, N.Y.) was solid in goal. The senior made nine saves on the afternoon and picked up two ground balls. Falco led Marist with three ground balls, and O'Brien caused four Siena turnovers.
Marist out-shot Siena 37-17 in total and held a 26-16 advantage in ground balls.
Liz Peters was in goal for Siena and took the loss. The freshman made 13 saves. Siena was led by Alexandra Kain's two goals.
Marist will finish the MAAC regular season at 5-1 and in second place in the conference standings. They have clinched a spot in the MAAC Tournament but will not know their opponent until the end of the weekend.
The Red Foxes will host Le Moyne in their final regular season contest of the season on Sunday at 1 p.m. A Senior Day ceremony will begin at 12:45.
