Red Foxes Win Program-Record 25th Game, Finish MAAC Water Polo League Play Undefeated

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - For the second straight season, the Marist women's water polo team has finished MAAC Water Polo League play undefeated. The Red Foxes defeated Iona 16-10 and the host Wagner 14-8 to go 10-0 in conference play. The win over the Seahawks pushed Marist's record to 25-7, setting a new program record for wins in a season.

Marist got out to a hot start against the Gaels in their first game of the day. The Red Foxes scored six goals in the first quarter to take a 6-2 lead over Iona. The lead extended to six at halftime as Marist added four more goals. Senior Maggie Hatcher (Evanston, Ill.) led the Red Foxes with five goals, with Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas) adding four of her own. Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) had six points in the game on three goals and three assists. Senior goalie Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.) had 10 saves in the win.

In its second game of the day, Marist took on the host school Wagner. After taking a 6-3 halftime lead, the Red Foxes pulled away with a six-goal third quarter to go ahead 12-6. McCahill led Marist with four goals, as Barnett and Samantha Swartz (Harleyville, Pa.) each had three. Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) had four assists in the game, as Hatcher and Swartz led the defense with three steals each. Davis had 13 saves for Marist to finish the regular season 25-7.

Marist will be the top seed for next weekend's MAAC Women's Water Polo Championships, held at the McCann Center Natatorium in Poughkeepsie. The tournament is on April 26th and 27th.
