Final Stats

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - In a back and forth affair, the Marist women's lacrosse team dropped to 8-8 on the season with an 11-10 loss to LeMoyne at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field on Sunday. Sophomore Liz Falco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with four goals. Seniors Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, N.Y.), Kelsey Haggett (Glastonbury, Conn.), Caitlin Bergin (Rumson, N.J.), Liz Burkhard (Wantagh, N.Y.), Ali Carnabuci (Albertson, N.Y.), and Jessica O'Brien (Wantagh, N.Y.) were honored prior to Sunday's game with a special ceremony for Senior Day.

Marist started the game on the right foot as Falco scored on a drive to the cage 48 seconds into the game. LeMoyne tied the game at 1-1 when Lisa McCarthy scored her first of her three goals with 25:40 left in the first half. This started a stretch of the game that saw five lead changes and five ties. O'Brien became the first of three seniors to tally a point in Sunday's game with a goal off of a free-position shot, giving Marist a 2-1 lead with 20:12 left in the half. With the two teams trading goals, Falco ended the half the way she started it by scoring with nine seconds left to give Marist a 6-5 lead.

The Red Foxes opened the second half by extending the lead to three. Carnabuci scored two goals 13 seconds apart to give Marist an 8-5 lead with 27:11 to go. LeMoyne answered with three straight goals from Kylie Rosette to tie the game at 8-8 with 18:17 left in the game. The Dolphins took their first lead of the game at the 17:32 mark as McCarthy scored her third goal off a Whitney Vecchio pass to make the score 9-8. Falco responded for Marist with her fourth goal of the game to tie the game at nine.

LeMoyne (12-5) took the lead back with 16:09 to go as Michelle Lisner scored from in front of the net to give the Dolphins a 10-9 lead. Junior Carolyn Sumcizk (Syosset, N.Y.) tied the game at 10 when Kate Noftsker set her up with a pass from behind the net. With 10:23 to go in the game, Mia Valletta scored what would become the game-winning goal to give the Dolphins an 11-10 lead. Marist had a couple chances to tie the game, the best coming with four seconds left when Falco raced to the net off a clear and took a shot at goal that was saved by Samantha Falcone.

The Dolphins outshot Marist 28-20 on Saturday and held a decided 26-14 advantage in ground balls. Each team had 11 draw controls. Burkhard made 14 saves for Marist as her counterpart Falcone made eight. Marist scored on 4-of-7 free-position shots while LeMoyne converted only 1-of-8. McCarthy and Rosette each scored three goals for the Dolphins, with Vecchio adding three points on two goals and an assist.

Marist returns to action on Friday, April 25th as the second-seed in the 2008 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship at Iona. The Red Foxes will take on third-seeded Canisius at 3 p.m.
