BETHLEHEM, Pa.- Lehigh scored the game's first four goals, and the Marist women's lacrosse team never really threatened in a 17-7 loss in Bethlehem, Pa. on Tuesday evening. The Red Foxes (5-6, 2-1 MAAC) were able to cut the Lehigh lead to 5-2, but the Mountain Hawks (8-5) scored seven of the game's next eight goals to take a 12-3 halftime lead.
Marist was led by sophomore Liz Falco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), senior Jessica O'Brien (Wantagh, N.Y.) and junior Carolyn Sumcizk (Syosset, N.Y.). Falco had a goal and two assists and both O'Brien and Sumcizk tallied two scores. O'Brien also had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.) led Marist in ground balls with five. Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, N.Y.) scored the other Marist goal.
Lehigh held a 34-22 advantage in shots and a 33-24 advantage in ground balls.
Liz Burkhard (Wantagh, N.Y.) took the loss in goal. The senior made 13 saves.
Lehigh was led by Lauren Dykstra and Sara MacIntyre who both scored four goals in the win.
The Red Foxes will return to the field on Friday at Metro Atlantic Athletic Confernce foe Canisius. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
