POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Red Foxes women's swimming and diving team finished in first place in 11 of 13 events in a dual meet against Lehigh on Tuesday night at the McCann Center, en route to a 137-99 victory. Senior Sandra Bujalski (Thomaston, Conn.) won three events, while junior Jenell Walsh-Thomas (Medford, N.J.) and freshmen Meredith Michl (Delmar, N.Y.) and Michelle Fountain (Sayville, N.Y.) each won two events, with at least one individual win apiece.
Bujalski captured her first victory in the first event of the night, the 400-yd. medley relay as the third leg of a team comprised of Kreho, junior Lyndsay Martin (Schenectady, N.Y.), and Fountain. The team finished with a time of 4:01.62. Bujalski would later win the 200-yd. butterfly with a time of 2:10.39 and would complete the night with a win as the anchor leg of the 400-yd. freestyle relay with a time of 3:45.70. Her team in the ladder relay consisted of junior Alyssa Hewitt (Pittsfield, Mass.), sophomore Megan Flood (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Martin.
Walsh-Thomas had strong swims in the distance freestyle events. She won the 1,000-yd. freestyle with a time of 10:38.86, while she also won the 500-yd. freestyle with a time of 5:11.32.
In addition to her win in the 400-yd. medley relay, Kreho also won an individual event in the 200-yd. backstroke with a time of 2:10.78.
Fountain captured a victory in the 100-yd. freestyle with a time of 55.38 seconds, after she swam to a victory in the first event of the evening.
In diving, Michl and senior Rachel Cuyler (Mansfield, Conn.) took first and second places respectively of each of the one and three-meter boards. In the 1-meter event, Michl qualified for the ECAC meet with a season-high score of 237.75, while Cuyler came in second with a score of 213.51. Off the 3-meter board, Michl won her second event of the night with a score of 211.88, again followed closely by Cuyler with a score of 201.82.
With the win, Marist improved their overall dual meet record to 3-4 overall during the 2008-09 season.
The Red Foxes will return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. for a dual meet with the Southern Connecticut State Owls. The Marist College Department of Athletics will honor all the departing seniors prior to the start of the meet.
