SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team completed their dual meet season on Saturday in a road meet with Seton Hall. The women fell in a tight meet, 158-142.
Senior co-captain Sandra Bujalski (Thomaston, Conn.) won the 200-yd. butterfly with a time of 2:09.13 and the 100-yd. butterfly with a time of 58.68 seconds. She took second place in the 200-yd. individual medley with a time of 2:12.11, and was a part of the 200-yd. medley relay team that finished in the same place with a time of 1:53.40.
Freshman Michelle Fountain (Sayville, N.Y.) finished swam to a first place finish in the 200-yd. freestyle with a time of 1:56.31. She also finished with a second place in the 100-yd. freestyle (54.54 seconds), the 50-yd. freestyle (25.37 seconds) and as a part of the 400-yd. freestyle relay team (3:45.05).
In the 500-yd. freestyle, junior Jenell Walsh-Thomas (Medford, N.J.) finished first with a time of 5:11.28. She took second place in the 1,000-yd. freestyle with a time of 10:41.39 and third in the 200-yd. IM with a time of 2:14.22.
In diving, freshman Meredith Michl (Delmar, N.Y.) won the 3-meter board with a score of 250.38.
Marist ends the season with a dual meet record of 4-6 overall. Since Head Coach Larry VanWagner took over the women's team in the 2003-04 season, the Red Foxes have yet to finish with a conference winning percentage of less than .500 in dual meets. This is the sixth consecutive season that Marist has accomplished this feat.
The Red Foxes will now shift their focus to the 2008 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held at the Loyola Fitness and Aquatic Center from Feb. 12 - Feb. 14. A three-day meet, the women will eye their sixth consecutive conference crown.
