POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team dropped its first dual meet of the season to Fordham at the McCann Center Natatorium on Thursday night. The final score of the meet was 160-83. Despite the loss, Marist swimmers posted five dual meet lifetime best times.
Sophomore Michelle Fountain (Sayville, N.Y.) garnered Marist's lone victory in the meet in the 200-yd. freestyle, the third women's event of the night. She touched with a time of 1:54.01, a lifetime dual meet personal best.
The Red Foxes garnered dual meet personal best times from senior Jenell Walsh-Thomas (Medford, N.J.) in the 1,000-yd. freestyle with a time of 10:29.44, good for second place overall. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's swimmer of the week, freshman Chelsea Unger (Marlboro, N.J.) in the 200-yd. breaststroke. Unger finished the race in a time of 2:26.59 in second place. She earned four points for the team in the event.
Marist kicked off the meet by setting a program record in dual meets in the 400-yd. medley relay. Conard, Unger, senior Lyndsay Martin (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Fountain paced the Red Foxes relay with a time of 3:56.83.
Sophomore Meredith Michl (Delmar, N.Y.) placed second in 3-meter diving, the latter of the evening's diving events. Her socre was 210.45.
Marist will return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 31 as it faces the defending MAAC champions, Rider, in its first conference dual meet of the season.
