NEW HAVEN, CONN. - Sophomore Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) and freshman Kelsey Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) of the Marist women's tennis team reached the Round of 32 in doubles at the 2009 Northeast Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) tournament at Yale on Saturday. The pair reached the second round of the tournament for the Red Foxes.
In the opening round, McCarthy and Raynor cruised past Kathryn Kvas and Amanda Pallukunnel, 8-1. The run was stopped by the fourth-seeded pair of Denise Harajanto and Diana Popescu of Buffalo. McCarthy and Raynor dropped the second round match 8-0.
Raynor also competed in the singles draw at the event. She fell in the first round to Julie Flanzer of Brown, 6-0, 6-2.
Marist will participate in the consolation draws on Sunday at Yale. Play is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
