Women's Swimming And Diving Defeats Fairfield For First Dual Meet Win Of Season

FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team cruised to a 176-120 over the Fairfield Stags in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) dual meet on Thursday evening. Eight different swimmers won a race for the Red Foxes during the road dual match, while freshman Katie Larkin (Huntington, N.Y.) won a pair of events on the evening.

Sophomore Alyssa Hewitt (Pittsfield, Mass.) finished third with a time of 9:48.40.

Marist finished in second through fifth place in the 200-meter freestyle. Freshman Chelsea Unger (Marlboro, N.J.) was the Red Foxes top finisher with a time of 2:11.08, 0.7 seconds behind Fairfield's Michelle Yosida. Sophomores Lyndsay Martin (Schenectady, N.Y.) rounded out the field for Marist.

Sophomore Megan Flood (Longmeadow, Mass.) claimed first place in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:09.52, almost four seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer.

Larkin took her first of two wins in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:16.48. She would later win the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 5:15.76.

Letchko and freshman Kate Conard (East Setauket, N.Y.) won back-to-back races on the women's side. Letchko won the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:27.77, while Conard took the top spot in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 28.03 seconds.

Marist sophomore Allison Kreho (Shelton, Conn.) finished first in the 200-meter backstroke. She finished with a time of 2:27.28.

Sophomore Emily Hammang (Barrington, R.I.) finished second and Letchko finished in third place.

In the 100-meter butterfly, Unger won the race with a time of 1:08.06.

Freshman Chelanie Elizar (Honolulu, Hawaii) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. She took the 1-meter board with a score of 205.35, and the 3-meter event with a mark of 201.75.

Marist (1-2, 1-1 MAAC) will host Binghamton and Siena in a tri-meet at the McCann Center Natatorium on Saturday, Nov. 21. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
