NEWARK, Del. - The Marist baseball team was defeated by Delaware by a score of 8-3 in the final game of a three-game series on Sunday. The Red Foxes, who scored all three of their runs in the ninth inning, were swept in the three-game set and now stand at 6-6 overall this season.
Freshman designated hitter George Agostini (Rehoboth, Mass.) was the lone Red Fox to have a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3. Sophomore third baseman Ricky Pacione (Newburgh, N.Y.), senior right fielder Brian McDonough (Hanover, Mass.) and red-shirt senior first baseman Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.) each had one RBI apiece. Freshman shortstop Jon Schwind (Hilton, N.Y.), junior left fielder Ryan Gauck (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and red-shirt sophomore catcher Bryce Nugent (Binghamton, N.Y.) scored the Marist runs.
Sophomore right-hander Kyle Putnam (New Windsor, N.Y.) took the loss. Making his first start of the season, Putnam allowed four runs in 5.1 innings.
Delaware starter Rich O'Donald earned the victory, throwing eight scoreless innings. Left fielder Jared Olson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a home run.
Marist will return to action on Tuesday, when the Red Foxes begin a two-game series at George Mason that will continue on Wednesday. First pitch of both games is set for 3 p.m.
