LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Marist water polo team defeated Villanova 19-7 and St. Francis (NY) 13-9 in MAAC Water Polo League play at Siena on Saturday. The Red Foxes are now 6-2 in conference play with two games remaining. Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) led Marist with four goals in the win over Villanova, with Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) scoring five goals in the win over St. Francis.
Marist (15-12, 6-2 MAAC) dominated Villanova in its first game of the day. The Red Foxes outscored the Wildcats 4-0 in the first quarter and 6-2 in the second to lead 10-2 at halftime. Marist scored six more goals in the third quarter to lead 16-4 and added three more tallies for the 12-goal win. Rachel Sunday (Carlisle, Pa.), Colleen Lischwe (Kirkwood, Mo.), and Emily St. Omer Roy (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) each had three goals in the win. Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas) and Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) each had five assists. Jessica Getchius (Simi Valley, Calif.) had eight saves in goals and added two steals.
In the second game of the day, Marist jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter against St. Francis. The Red Foxes led 7-3 at halftime, but the Terriers cut into the lead in the third quarter. St. Francis outscored Marist 4-2 to make the score 9-7. Marist then scored four times in the fourth to win 13-9. Swartz added an assist to her five goals. McCahill had three goals and five assists in the game. Barnett also had three goals. Getchius made 10 saves in goal.
Marist closes MAAC Water Polo League play on Sunday, April 19 at the McCann Center Natatorium. The Red Foxes will play Siena at 12 p.m. and Iona at 4:30 p.m. Prior to the Iona game, Marist will honor the three seniors on this season's team.
