POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Red-shirt junior goalkeeper Joe Pilla (Watertown, Conn.) of the Marist men's soccer team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference co-defensive player of the week. Pilla has posted back-to-back shutouts in Marist's first two games this season.
He made one save to preserve a 1-0 win against Delaware on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Pilla also kept Hartwick off the scoreboard on Friday, Sept. 4, as he made four saves in the double overtime scoreless draw with the Hawks. The team is off to its best start since the 2003 season.
Marist is currently ranked eighth in the North Atlantic region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. It will face Army tonight on the road at 7 p.m. It is the first of seven road games for the Red Foxes.
