BETHLEHEM, PA. - The Marist women's swimming and diving defeated Lehigh in its first meet of the 2010 calendar year. The Red Foxes defeated the Mountain Hawks for the third consecutive year, by the score of 141-102. Senior Jenell Walsh-Thomas (Medford, N.J.) won two events to help the squad to its 6-3 this season.
Walsh-Thomas posted victories in the 1,000-yd. freestyle with a time of 10:39.20 and the 500-yd. freestyle with a time of 5:13.58.
The Red Foxes led off with a win in the 400-yd. medley relay. Freshmen Chelsea Unger (Marlboro, N.J.), senior Lyndsay Martin (Schenectady, N.Y.) and sophomore Michelle Fountain (Sayville, N.Y.) notched a time of 4:01.68.
Fountain and Unger each posted individual victories in the 200- and 50-yd. freestyles, respectively. Fountain finished the 200-yd. free with a time of 1:56.31, while Unger's time was 25.32 seconds in the 50-yd. free. Additionally, Fountain won the 100-yd. freestyle with a time of 54.41 seconds.
Freshman Katie Larkin (Huntington, N.Y.) won the 200-yd. individual medley with a time of 2:15.09. She also finished second in the 200-yd. breaststroke with a time of 2:30.41.
Martin and sophomore Allison Kreho (Shelton, Conn.) won the 200-yd. butterfly and the 200-yd. backstroke respectively. Martin swam to a time of 2:13.88 in the butterfly, while Kreho touched the wall with a time of 2:08.25
In diving action, sophomore Meredith Michl (Delmar, N.Y.) scored 224.32 to win the 3-meter board. She also took second in 1-meter diving with a score of 202.27.
Marist will return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 16 when it takes on Southern Connecticut State. The first event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
