BRONX, N.Y. - The Marist men's cross country team earned a fifth-place at the IC4A Championships, held Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park. The finish was the second-best for the Red Foxes in IC4A history, and they finished just 21 points out of second place. Junior Matthew Flint (Queensbury, N.Y.) finished in seventh place and earned IC4A Championship Division All-East honors for the second straight year.
Marist's fifth-place finish was topped only by the team's third-place finish in 2008. Flint completed the five-mile race in 25:11.8, which set a personal best at Van Cortlandt Park by over 37 seconds. His time at Van Cortlandt Park is tied for second-fastest in school history with Mike Melfi and trails only Girma Segni (25:01).
Sophomore Arquimedes DelaCruz (Wantagh, N.Y.) also earned All-East honors on the strength of his 14th-place finish in 25:26.4. That time was a personal best for him at Van Cortlandt Park by one minute, 34 seconds. In all, 18 Marist runners set personal bests on the day.
"This race was an excellent way to conclude what has been a very strong season for our men's program," Marist Directory of Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Pete Colaizzo said. "The men worked very hard and ran well during our end-of-season championship meets. It was great to see."
