POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team won the first four events and five of the first six as the Red Foxes cruised to a 180-111 victory over Fairfield in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) dual meet at the McCann Center Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. Eight competitors won an individual event on the women's side while sophomores Kate Conard (East Setauket, N.Y.) and Chelaine Eliazar (Honolulu, Hawaii) each won two events.
Conard won both the 100- and 200-yd. butterfly events, while Eliazar swept the diving events for Marist. Conard finished with times of 59.60 seconds in the 100-yd. butterfly and 2:09.97 in the 200-yd. event. Eliazar won the 1-meter board with a score of 219.00 and claimed first place in the 3-meter event with a mark of 221.77.
The Red Foxes began the meet with wins in the first four events - the 200-yd. medley relay, the 1000-yd. freestyle, the 200-yd. freestyle and the 100-yd. backstroke. The foursome of Allison Kreho (Shelton, Conn.), Katie Larkin (Huntington, N.Y.), Sondra McAdam (Redding Conn.) and Bonnie Orr (Fresno, Calif.) won the relay with a time of 1:53.98. Larkin also won the 200-yd. breaststroke with a time of 2:29.64.
Marist (2-1, 2-0 MAAC) continued its strong start with a time of 10:43.31 from Orr in the 1,000-yd. freestyle. The Red Foxes claimed the top three spots in the event as freshman Kim Kaller (New Providence, N.J.) and junior Leanna Brittis (Bluffton, S.C.) took second and third respectively.
Miles won the 200-yd. freestyle with a time of 1:58.01, while freshman Maddie Arciello (Missoula, Mont.) claimed first in the 100-yd. backstroke with a time of 1:00.73.
The Red Foxes swept the top three spots in the 200-yd. backstroke as freshman Sarah Wagner (Rockaway, N.J.), junior Darrell Ann Smith (Westfield, N.J.) took first, second and third places respectively. Wagner's final time was 2:10.78.
Kreho concluded the strong afternoon of swimming for the Marist women as she won the 500-yd. freestyle with a final time of 5:17.23.
The Red Foxes will return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. Marist will travel to Vestal, N.Y. for a dual meet with Binghamton.
